B. Deniz Çalış Kural, Phd.

B. Deniz Çalış Kural received her bachelors degree from Middle East Technical University (METU) in 1995; Master’s Degree from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, NY in 1998; and her Ph.D. in Architecture from METU in 2004. For her graduate studies, she was granted TUBİTAK NATO Scholarship (1996-2004) and Harvard University Dumbarton Oaks Fellowship (2003-2004). Currently, as an Ass. Prof. she is teaching courses in history and theory at Bahcesehir University Department of Architecture. At the same time, she is conducting research on Ottoman landscape culture and participating in ongoing international projects. She is also preparing a book on 18th c. Ottoman Public Gardens. Her research topics include Ottoman space culture (16th c.- 18th c.); Ottoman garden and landscape traditions, and, Ottoman westernization.
